Clearly this shop is not equipt to provide quality bike servicing, I wouldn't go here for anything other then changing a flat.
I felt the need to post here because last season I took both my city bike and my road bike here for service (at the same time) and have later come to find the damage done by this bike shop.
I understand being a small bike shop is a struggle but cmon tape dude? You just set me up to get another flat tire to try and get me back. Never coming back.
My road bike was only 2 months old when I took it to South Philly Bikes for a tuneup, a standard check-in after having ridden the bike for the first few months. When I got it back I didnt notice any issues at the time and rode it through the end of the season and now beginning this season. Last week, when changing a flat I noticed that the frame seemed bent or the wheel, things weren't aligning. I took it to Keswick and they said that a number of things were fully out of whack including the tension on the wheels, the spokes and the frame was slightly rubbing as I was riding creating other problems. They said this was definitely something that was done by a mechanic and not typical wear. Remembering back to right after I had my city bike tuned up at South Philly Bikes, the crank arm flew off while I was riding on Delaware Ave, and when I had brought it back to show them they said "oh that happens sometimes". Now having taken it to a different shop they verified they forgot a critical step and that the crank arm was installed incorrectly.
This is literally the only bike shop I've been to that doesn't make me clench up when I go inside. As in, they're super friendly and welcoming, and don't have that why-are-you-invading-our-sacred-bike-space vibe.
Instead of going back I got a new pair of tubes and did it myself only to find that I had a hole in my tire which the owner tried to cover up with some tape. Why tape? He could have just told me and I would have bought a new tire. But def running some kind of scam.
Good (not huge) used bike selection. Etc. These guys are the best!
Great store. The people inside are some of the friendliest I have ever worked with in a shop. Willing to help, inform you on the product and make sure you walk out he door happy, and a returning customer. I will recommend this shop to everyone.
Went to get a quick tube change since i really didn't have time to do it myself that day. Not only was it kind of expensive $16 for a tube change. But I ended up getting a flat later that week.
I spent about $300 on parts and labor for an older bike I'm trying to bring back. South Philly Bikes did a decent job and were very friendly and helpful up to that point. A few days later when I was driving back to Denver I realized my mount for my Cat Eye light was missing. When I got home I called. They looked around but couldn't find it. They guy I talked to suggested perhaps I didn't have one on there or it came off later. Neither is the case. He would not help me beyond that point and just said their are just a couple bucks to replace. I am replacing it and it is just under $10 with shipping. It's not the money that bothers me but their unwillingness fix their mistake. This is why I didn't give them a better rating.
Just for that I'd give them 5 stars, but they've also been really helpful and effective every time I've gone in (for repairs & buying stuff). They also basically found/put together my "dream bike" and sold it to me for cheaper than they could have. Months later I still love it.
