I don't generally write reviews but... I was there to see John Carpenter. I've worked in a professional theater since I was 16. This building is unsafe. People were crammed in like sardines, they oversold. Some of the staff were great, others were really rude. We tried to get a refund but were informed they didn't have a policy, even when they oversell to the point of people being unable to fit into the theater. The house manager had someone from security escort/push through the crowd to get us to the front of house right since it was the only place there was any extra space. Their stage lighting is hung on wood beams... I do overhire work for lighting and I've never seen anything like it. It's a fire hazard. And the guy running the lighting board didn't know what a grid was when I asked when it was last updated. It was incredibly alarming and you couldn't pay me to enter the building again. I was going to go see Bianca del Rio there but... Nope. I've never feared for my safety in a building before. I'm not from Pennsylvania so maybe the laws are different but in NYC or NJ, this building would not pass the fire inspection.
Great place to see a concert. It has original Victorian Decor and there's second floor Balcony with seats and a bar. The drinks are reasonably priced for concert venue. The Staff is mostly friendly especially the head bouncer Keith is really cool. Some shows have GA with Balcony closed but if you're unable to stand for long periods of time like myself; arrive early so they can accommodate you. They also have Movie Mondays in the Second Floor Balcony and it's only few dollars with one free drink and bag of popcorn included. It's a lot of fun...
Saw Lacuna Coil and Epica in concert. This was my first time at the Troc and I was very impressed with the place. Staff were super friendly and lots of space even with a good size crowd. Also great sound!
The place is great. Overall ambiance is quite nice. Sound quality is pretty great.
This is my fav venue in Philly. I've been going to shows here since I was 16 and still love it. From standing room only to seated shows to comedy to drag shows to movie nights, they're the best. Plus, it's only a few blocks away from the Jefferson (formerly Market East) SEPTA stop which makes it beyond convenient to get to. Also, great food in the area. Can't beat Chinatown for dumplings!!
