I don't eat Indian food much but this food was incredibly flavorful! My boyfriend enjoyed it so much he kept saying he was going to rent the apartment above so he could eat it every day. Will definitely be going again
To conclude our story we did not drive to the restaurant to PROVE there were onions because we don't have a car. But even if we did I would not have driven there to show them the food since we'd already wasted $40 in food we couldn't eat and time and energy over the phone and waiting for an order that never came. Further the restaurant never tried to make it right in any way or in the very least apologize for our experience. Instead we hung up the phone with the woman on the other line still asking us about the validity of the onions.
Food is good. Good portions. But price is very high.
**exhaling loudly**
This was the first time we'd ever eaten at this restaurant and it will be the last. I advise anyone with any food sensitivity or allergy to consider alternate eateries so they don't run into a similar experience. Despite my husband not eating the onions and saving himself havoc from an allergic reaction we both have headaches after all was said and done.
Frustrating experience and will not dine there again nor recommend it to anyone we know. Anyone interested in understanding why, please keep reading below:
I've gone here probably about 5 times over the last year, and every time it has been amazing. Even though there are closer Indian restaurants to me, they do not compare to Laxmi's. The atmosphere is calm and intimate, the service is very very good, and most importantly the food is amazing. I can't recommend eating here enough.
We placed our order online adding notes in three different places to not add onion since my husband is allergic. As soon as the order was placed the restaurant called and verbally confirmed with me there would not be any onions in any of the items I ordered. When the order came the two main entrees had onions. We called the restaurant and the woman who answered the phone did not believe us. She insisted the onions, both white and red which were prominently used in the dishes, were actually green bell peppers...And for the very first time I explained the difference to not just an adult but one working in the food industry. Once she finally acknowledged there was an error in our order she told us she felt bad and would be sending out a brand new order without onions as long as we gave them back our first order. Fine, no problem. Fast forward 45 minutes and we decided to call back to find out the status of our new order. We were then told our location, which hadn't changed from the first delivery, was too far away and they had decided to not send us the food, without calling us back to tell us by the way. She then wanted us to drive to the restaurant and prove to her in person that our orders did in fact have onion because that was the only way they would do anything for us. She also told us she still didn't believe us because she'd asked their cook and he denied putting onion in the entrees. So once again are we sure there were onions and not some identical other vegetable that we could've mistaken to be an onion (like a bell pepper)?
Ordered takeout from here via GrubHub as is my custom. Got the Chicken Kathi roll for the 2nd time since the first time I had the thing it was so packed with rich flavor. But then for some reason the 2nd time I got the dang thing it was completely different. Like it morphed into this sad caricature of everything I remembered. The bread was just a regular bland wrap, not the chapati advertised or much less the one I had the first time about two months ago. The vegetables were fresh but mushy. By far the worst offender was the chicken, which was so dry and devoid of spice or flavor that I honestly had to stop eating not even halfway through. I went and made myself a dope cheese omelet instead. 2 stars for every other time I've gone there and the food has actually been cooked with a little bit of love. Probably not going here again unfortunately.
