Why would any manager have only 2 desk agents on duty on one of the busiest travel days of the year (Wed before Thanksgiving)? The line was out the door and moving very slowly, and the self service kiosk was apparently not working. The tire pressure looked low when we finally got to the car, the guy in the lot who helped us and put more air in the tires was very nice and helpful. The woman at the exit booth was not friendly at all and clearly hated her job. Would not recommend this Dollar Rent-a-Car location unless they are giving you a car for free.
Dollar’s lot is also across from the B terminal, which is convenient in the event the day is delayed and you have to make a run to he B terminal to take your American flight.
The worst experience ever. We waited over 45 minutes at the designated location for the courtesy van that never show up to pick us up. They had a courtesy phone, however the phones were not linked to the dollar at Philadelphia. The phones were linked to the dollar reservations desk which they did not have access to contact the dollar at Philadelphia airport office. We finally had to walk to the dollar car rental office thur a one way highway. When we got there Edward Winne the Manager did not even acknowledged or try to find out way the van was not going to the airport. He just dismisses the complain completely. Not even apologized. They had three van, what i observed was that the courtesy van does not go to the airport unless there is someone there to return to the airport. I travel for business at leat once a month and always rent a car. I have never experienced the bad service i experience with Dollar rental car in Philadelphia airport. In will never use dollar rental car service in the future
The live kiosk service made the task of checking in and paying for the Reserved car quick and easy however since there were no cars actually available to assign, physically getting a car became a nightmare. Not only was it 5 pm rush hour, it was a Friday night with only 3 attendants behind the counter. After nearly an hour waiting in line to get assistance with getting keys for the car we already checked out with the kiosk, one of the reluctant service reps finally provided a vehicle.
I can't imagine another way to expedite the process. Easy and clear reservation system, skip the counter feature.
Professionally managed - bus drivers were friendly, the best. A driver hand buffing the front of his bus in the winter cold?! Squawk on the radio was jovial and encouraging to the drivers.
You literally go in pick your car on your own, drive through the window and done. The return was easy too. Drove in, got out of the car and hop to the airport shuttle.
As a suggestion, schedule sufficient staff for busy periods and having a manager on site would be helpful and a course or two on customer service courtesy for the rude and obnoxious attendants would probably help with getting returning customers. (Which I will never be) 2 stars for the actual car, not the business.
